VSAT's Research

VSAT Independent Research and Development (IR&D) is focused on transitioning proven military training technologies to civilian applications. VSAT people have long experience in defining and developing systems to train military pilots and aircrews to perform difficult tasks requiring excellent cognitive skills. We believe the approach methods, and procedures used are directly applicable to many critical civilian training needs. VSAT has initiated internally funded research activities shown below, and stands ready to assist others in development of training which exploits proven military methods.

    1.     Novice Driver Training
    2.     First Responder Training

NOVICE DRIVER TRAINING

VSAT research into teen driver training methods is expected to demonstrate teen driver crash rate reductions of as much as 40%. Nationwide, crash statistics show that existing driver training programs do not reduce crash rates for drivers age 16-25. The data also show that crash rates decline gradually as drivers acquire situational awareness and cognitive driving skills learned from driving experiences accumulated over a ten year period. Existing driver training programs do not effectively train situational awareness or the cognitive driving skills required to prevent teen driving crashes and deaths. MORE

FIRST RESPONDER TRAINING

VSAT research into training for firefighters and emergency response personnel is focused on development of methods, curricula, simulations, and systems that significantly enhance the quality and effectiveness of first responder training, enabling fire departments to reduce both the cost and man-hours currently devoted to training activities.
