TECHNOLOGY ROADMAPS

Many public and private organizations are using, or considering using, technology roadmaps to help focus their activities and allocate their resources. There are many types of roadmaps in a variety of formats, but what they all have in common is the time-based interrelationship of programs and program products toward at least one defined goal.

VSAT personnel are experienced and capable in developing technology roadmaps for a variety of technologies and a variety of purposes. Although roadmapping is simple in concept, it is difficult in practice. Developing a meaningful roadmap for specific intended purposes takes careful analysis on the front end, a systematic process through out, and a final product appropriate to the users’ needs.

Roadmaps need not be limited to large wall chart "snapshots", soon to be obsolete. Roadmaps can take advantage of new technologies and become interactive, adaptable, hyperlinked, searchable, maintainable, manageable, accessible, and transportable, all as required for specific uses.

The VSAT Process

Through experience and innovation, VSAT has developed a systematic process for developing technology roadmaps.  Although the primary application has for the Department of Defense, other agencies are applying the process.

One of the benefits is the adaptability of the process to large or small, complex or simple scopes. The process stresses the importance of working with the user to determine the actual needs based on intended users and uses. It also stresses the importance of "buy-in" by intended users, and their participation to assure their needs are met.

Whether the product is completely electronic or completely hardcopy, or a combination, there are a variety of computer application programs available for use. VSAT is continually research and experimenting with combinations of available applications to provide a wide range of capability.
