VSAT has developed several tools
to support its analysis processes. VSAT will tailor these tools and provide them for
the customer use when required. Examples of customer use for these tools include
support of decisions and recommendations, configuration control or starting points
for further development, such as development of courseware. Tools and processes are
continuously being developed. Some examples include:
- Training
System Database
The training system database
can capture the full impact of a training system analysis. It usually contains the full
master task list and all data related to those tasks. Related data on each task can
include a variety of parameters, such as interactivity, criticality, difficulty,
subsystems affected, etc. The database can also contain the logic to derive the
"training task list" from the master task list. It can also contain extensive
information on specific existing or projected media capability to support training tasks,
as well as derivation of new media requirements. It can contain logic to derive training
objectives and develop a complete training curriculum. Finally, it can contain the logic
to allocate training tasks to media.
- Task
and Media Questionnaires
VSAT task and media
questionnaires permit interactions with user subject matter experts to identify tasks and
associated characteristics as well as to define requirements for future media. The
questionnaires permit queries that rank and prioritize tasks, define key simulation
requirements in terms of the tasks, evaluate existing training media in terms of the
tasks, and allocate tasks to media.
- Cue Analysis
Questionnaires
Cue analysis questionnaires
are used in evaluation of operational scenarios to determine the actual operational use of
various sensory cues in the environment. This process helps to determine the extent and
limitations on cues in technology areas where provision of cues can be a major portion of
the training simulator cost. This is particularly significant in the provision of visual
and force cues, although the process is not limited to them.
- System Evaluation
Questionnaires
In the conduct of system
operational evaluations, tailored and structured questionnaires have been used. VSAT
experience and success in developing and using such questionnaires has resulted in a
process which has value to potential customers. Such questionnaires could be provided to a
customer as a deliverable under the performance of an evaluation, or potentially developed
by VSAT for subsequent customer use.
